Hi Everyone!

I am hoping to create a space where we can discuss and learn from each other! My focus in my classroom is currently a learner-based design (student centered) classroom. I am trying to step away from my old ways of a subject centered design (where standardized testing is the main focus) because I believe students will learn more tools, skills, and knowledge that they can transfer into the real world when engaging in a learner-based design curriculum. With that being said, I am looking to discuss and learn from others more about the assessment aspect of a learner-based design. I understand I can not avoid standardized testing, but I want to prepare my students to be successful for life, not a test.

What kind of learner based design assessments are you using in math?

Will this style of curriculum design hurt my students futures since they need "good" test scores to go to university?

Will a learner based design curriculum still prepare my students with the skills to pass a standardized test?

I look forward to using this space to collaborate and discuss curriculum, instruction, planning, and assessment!

Thank you!

Riley Wood
